What are SPORT-SPECIFIC athletic bags?

In the past, many sports' participants had to be content with the one-size-fits-all duffel bag (or duffle bag).   These are the outdated designs mainly being offered by major footwear and apparel and sporting goods brands.  Many consumers simply purchased these duffle gym bags because no company offered sport specific solutions that met their sport-specific needs.  

When you play a sport, whether it's baseball, basketball, football, hockey, lacrosse, softball, soccer or volleyball - you have sport-specific gear i.e. basketball, basketball shoes, etc.  So why shouldn't your bag be sport-specific too?

The SPORT SAQ story really began In the winter of 1992.  While living in Phoenix, Arizona, company founder, Curtis Medlen, inspired by his passion for basketball and by players such as MJ, Barkley and SHAQ, was awaken in the middle of the night from a dream and immediately grabbed a pencil and a piece of paper and wrote down the concept he just dreamed about... “Basketball Bag”.  A bag designed specifically for basketball players.  A bag with revolutionary design features such as the unique Ball Compartment, separate (ventilated) Shoe Compartment, insulated Drink Holder and more.

The rest, as they say, is history...  Curtis moved back to his home town of Spokane, Washington and sewed the first prototype on his mother's sewing machine in the fall of 1993.  He did so while video taping the entire construction.

Then, in the Spring of 1994, he got together with a local seamstress and worked the design a bit  more until settling on a pre-production sample that would be the 3rd and final prototype .  He applied for a United States patent for it later that same year.  The design was so innovative that it was granted a United States design patent on October 31, 1995.  And it was from this point that a revolution in the athletic bag industry began... From 'duffle bags' to 'sport-specific bags'.
